New Song Small Groups
Fall 2009
One of the best ways to nurture your faith in Jesus Christ is by regularly participating in a small group Bible study, prayer group or support group. (Note: All groups meet on-site at New Song Church, 1291 Cornet St., Henderson, Nevada, 89052, unless otherwise noted in the description.) Mondays
- GriefShare (7:00-8:30 PM) Trained facilitator, Carol Von Eschen, leads this group that provides support for those who have lost a loved one to death. Each GriefShare session includes a dvd seminar featuring top experts on grief and recovery topics, small group discussion, and the opportunity to interact with others who've experienced a loss. Each session features a stand-along topic, allowing GriefShare begins Monday, September 14th and concludes Monday, December 7th. Tuesdays
- Sunrise AA (7:00-8:00 AM) Join others on the journey of sobriety following the traditions and practices of Alcoholics Anonymous. This early morning group caters to the before-work crowd on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Location: Community Room.
- Games Group (1:00-4:00 PM) Join other seniors for an afternoon each week of laughter and fun as they play board games. This is a wonderful opportunity to meet new friends, stimulate your mind, and enjoy one another's company. Location: Classroom. For more information, contact the church office (492-1771).
- ALPHA (6:30-8:45 PM) Every Tuesday evening, adults gather for dinner or dessert and discussion around a 13-session introduction/refresher course on the basics of the Christian faith. ALPHA is a dvd-based study that explores questions such as: Who is Jesus?, Why and How Do I Pray?, Does God Heal Today? Come bring your questions and explore the teachings of Christianity! Wednesdays
- Women's Book Club (9:30-11:00 AM) This book club meets the fourth Wednesday morning of each month in the home of a member, Lynne Enerson. Participants read a book a month, prior to the club, and then gather to discuss the book. For more information, contact Lynne Enerson: 270-3020.
- Chancel Choir (6:30-7:30 PM) New Song's Chancel Choir meets for weekly rehearsal to lead the music for Sunday's 8:00 AM Spirited Traditional service. - Praise Team I (8:00-9:00 PM) New Song's Praise Team I meets for weekly rehearsal to lead the music for Sunday's 9:30 and 11:00 AM Contemporary Worship services. - New! Women's Bible Study (6:30-7:30 PM) This women's Bible study group, led by Pastor Marta, meets weekly following New Song's Wednesday evening worship service. During the fall months, we'll be focusing on a topic decided by participants at the first fall gathering on Wednesday, September 16th. You don't have to be a Bible scholar to attend! - NEW! Lay School of Theology (6:30-7:30 PM) Mark your calendar to be a part of New Song's new Lay School of Theology. Journey with others into a deeper study of the Bible as New Song launches college-level courses on the Old Testament, the New Testament, Luther, Jesus and the Gospels, and Early Christianity. Each course features 24 sessions that offer a 30-minute professor-led dvd presentation, followed by a half hour of participant discussion. Pastor Dave facilitates the fall 2009 Wednesday evening School of Theology, beginning September 16th. The first course offered will be on the Old Testament. Professor Any-Jill Levine, from Vanderbilt University Divinity School, is the featured presenter for the fall course. She'll lead participants in a step-by-step journey through the Old Testament beginning with the creation stories in Genesis and ending with a study of the apocalyptic (end times) literature of Daniel. Thursdays

- Middle School Confirmation (4:00-5:00 PM) Middle school students gather each Thursday afternoon, from 4:00 -5:00 pm, for faith exploration using our confirmation curriculum, Here We Stand. Our focus during 2009-2010 is on the Small Catechism (the Lord's Prayer, the Ten Commandments, the sacraments, and the Apostles Creed). Confirmation ministry also includes opportunities for fun outings, servant events, a retreat at El Camino Pines Camp and participation in a spring regional youth gathering, YouthQuake!. Confirmation begins with a parent/student orientation on Thursday, September 10, at 5:00 PM. Fall classes begin on Thursday, September 17th, at 4:00 PM.
- "TNT" (Thursday Nights Together) Children's Ministry (5:30-7:00 PM) Kindergarten through sixth graders gather every Thursday afternoon for an hour and a half of non-stop fun, Bible discovery, music, games, and a light meal. "TNT" teaches children Bible stories and the essentials of the Christian faith in a high energy, non-traditional, interactive learning format. "TNT" begins on Thursday, September 17th, with a return to the bayou of our summer 2009 Vacation Bible School, Crocodile Dock. - Women's AA Group (10:30-11:30 AM) Every Friday morning, join other women for support and encouragement the 12-step way! Location: Classroom.
Saturdays

- New! Anthem Alanon (10:30-11:30 AM) Join other area residents for support in dealing with family members with chemical dependency problems. Location: Classroom.
- Prayer Shawl Team (9:30-10:30 AM) Every fourth Saturday morning of the month, a team gathers to pray over shawls and quilts made by members, to pray for those on the congregations' prayer list, to lift to God prayers for our community and the world. Participants are those who knit, crochet or sew prayer shawls and blankets distributed through New Song's pastoral care team to those hospitalized or in need of God's healing power. - NEW! Lay School of Theology (9:30-10:30 AM) Mark your calendar to be a part of New Song's new Lay School of Theology. - Children's Church (11:15-noon) Diane Rohrbaugh and her team of teachers lead a weekly Bible lesson and craft for children between the ages of four and fifth grade. The children attend worship with parents through the "children's message" portion of the service. Then, they go with the Children's Church staff for 45 minutes of their own Bible learning experience. - High School and Youth Adult Group (noon-1:00 PM) High school youth and young adults meet Sundays for their own fellowship and discussion time at noon. They also worship together at the 11:00 AM "The Edge" contemporary worship service. This group also engages in other activities outside of Sunday morning, including their annual summer mission trip. - Croppers/Scrapbookers (6:00-9:00 PM) Join us on the second evening of each month as the "Second Sunday Croppers" meet to work on scrapbooking projects. Tina Aguiar, Creative Memories consultant, is on hand to help participants with projects, ideas or the ordering of digital or traditional scrapbooking supplies. Location: Community Room.
